It contains a prophetic description of a day, described as occurring before the Day of Judgment, in which the sky fills with a great smoke. The smoke is prophesied to cause enough chaos that people will cry out to Allah for reprieve. It also states that Allah destroys disbelieving nations. Verses 43-46 describe Jahannam. In verses 51-57, Allah describes Jannah and promises Houris to men who lived in piety.

wtlabprop:persianAbstract | توضیحات سوره به فارسی | در آيه 10 مىگويد: «منتظر روزى باش كه آسمان دودى فرا گيرنده مردم را فراهم مىآورد و عذابى دردناك است.» بعضى اين دود را از علائم رستاخيز و پيش درآمد قيامت دانستهاند، برخى گفتهاند در قيامت، بعنوان عذاب، دودى كه چشم و گوش منافقان را پر مىكند ظاهر خواهد شد. بعضى هم اين را تحقق يافته مىدانند و مىگويند در اثر تكذيب و روگردانى مردم از دعوت پيامبر قحطسالى و تنگدستى چنان كرد كه مردم وقتى با چشمهاى ناتوان به آسمان نگاه مىكردند، آن را پر شده از دود، مىديدند. در هر صورت، سوره متضمن بيم دادن كسانى است كه در قرآن و دعوت حق شك دارند و آنان را نسبت به عذاب دنيا و آخرت، هشدار مىدهد. و داستان موسى و سر انجام فرعون را نمونهاى از عذاب دنيوى، و كيفرهاى گوناگون جهنم را نمونهاى از عذاب دنيوى، و كيفرهاى گوناگون جهنم را نمونهاى از عذاب آخرت بيان مىكند، و پاداش متقين را هم بيان مىكند. اين سوره 59 آيه دارد و در سال 4 بعثت، در مكه نازل گرديده است. توصيه شده كه اين سوره در نمازهاى واجب و مستحب خوانده شود.
