Process mining
Introduction
Process mining is a rather new topic that is in-between of computational intelligence and data mining on one hand, and process modeling and analysis on the other. The purpose of process mining is to monitor and improve real process through extracting knowledge from readable data stored in today’s information systems. Process mining is more about analyzing the process using events data. Data mining’s classic techniques such as clustering, classification, rule discovery and etc. are not focused on business process models and are used, only in an specific step during a bigger process, and only for analysis. Process mining is focused on end-to-end process. And it is possible because accessible event data are growing more and more everyday along with rule discovering techniques and consistency checking techniques. Process mining techniques use event log to discover, analyze and improve business process. Process mining means to discover, monitor and improve real process using extracted knowledge from event logs in the today’s information systems. Each event points to an event registered to an activity an is related to instance (such as a single process).
